Building No. 15 serves as a case study in adaptive reuse within the harbor revitalization project. The design strategy centers on preservation and superimposition. New architectural insertions employ reversible construction methods that remain detached from the original structure, ensuring minimal intervention to the existing fabric. The lighting design follows the same philosophy—every fixture is suspended from the existing truss system, using light to articulate the continuity of architectural texture and the layering of time.

Situated along the bustling waterfront, the building maintains a distinct nighttime presence despite being closed after hours, creating a “display window” effect unique to the harbor. The concept of the “wave” anchors the entire design, allowing pedestrians to glimpse the fluid rhythm of light and shadow through the glazed façade. The undulating light bands embody the motion of water, while the cool 4000K tones evoke seagulls gliding over the glimmering surface. The rear wall exposes the original ceiling structure, illuminated by 3000K warm floodlighting from below, evoking the dusk-like glow of the seaside and juxtaposing the authentic texture of the building with the poetic light of sunset.

Inside, the wave motif transcends decoration to become an architectural and luminous element. The design extends along the existing truss framework, transforming into a sculptural pendant above the reception counter. This continuity of ceiling, structure, and light establishes a rhythmic spatial narrative. Visitors are guided by the wave-shaped flooring pattern, their gaze moving from the illuminated ripples underfoot toward the glowing horizon above, creating a visual progression from ground to canopy, from interior depth to beyond.

The project also redefines the temporal logic of light. During the day, illumination operates from inside out, as artificial and natural light collaborate to project interior brightness outward, making the space itself a beacon. At night, the dynamic reverses—light performs from outside in, inviting curiosity through the façade and allowing passersby to observe the luminous layers within. The interior remains at low ambient levels, emphasizing an external viewing perspective and transforming daytime occupants into nighttime observers.

Building No. 15 thus transcends the typical framework of interior illumination. Through the narrative of light, it positions inhabiting within and viewing from without as equally significant experiences, revealing a renewed architectural possibility—where light becomes the medium through which time overlaps and place regenerates.
